This constitutes the\u00a0main\u00a0principal\u00a0for the year 2006 as well.<\/div>\n<div>The policy against crime, both for the previous years and for the year 2006, has been planned following the process of studying and analyzing crime information, scientific studies, opinions of social institutions and international experience. Moreover, the efficiency and the performance of Police Services have been examined, taking into consideration the views and suggestions formulated by the Heads of Services and Departments on the particularities and special needs in their areas of responsibility.<\/div>\n<div>The priorities of the policy against crime for the year 2006 are the following:<\/div>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Fight against organized crime,<\/li>\n<li>Fight against drugs,<\/li>\n<li>Dealing with petty crime,<\/li>\n<li>Road safety,<\/li>\n<li>Fight against human trafficking aiming at their sexual and financial abuse,<\/li>\n<li>Dealing with illegal immigration,<\/li>\n<li>Protection of minors,<\/li>\n<li>Execution of pending condemning court decisions,<\/li>\n<li>Seizures of fire arms, ammunitions, explosive devices and checks on whether safety conditions are met during their legal transport and stocking,<\/li>\n<li>Improve the citizens` everyday life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Quantitative\u00a0objectives\u00a0shall\u00a0not\u00a0be\u00a0determined\u00a0regarding\u00a0the\u00a0priorities\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0policy\u00a0against\u00a0crime.\u00a0By\u00a0way\u00a0of\u00a0exception,\u00a0either at the local or the central level, quantitative objectives shall be fixed in order to assess certain concrete actions.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div>For instance:<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u0391.\u00a0Public Safety<\/span><\/div>\n<div>Partial quantitative objectives shall be fixed by local General Police Directors, related in particular to offences, such as:<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thefts,<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Robberies,<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Breaking into residences,<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vehicle thefts,<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sexual abuse etc.,<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Not to mention other forms of crime, in proportion with the particular problems of crime each region is faced with, so as to\u00a0reduce the number of crimes committed and enhance effectiveness in the investigation domain.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u0392.\u00a0Road\u00a0Safety<\/span><\/div>\n<div>The principal objective is to\u00a0reduce\u00a0&#8211; in comparison with the year 2005\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0by\u00a07%\u00a0the\u00a0number\u00a0of\u00a0dead\u00a0and\u00a0injured\u00a0and to\u00a0increase\u00a0by\u00a010%\u00a0or\u00a020%\u00a0the number of\u00a0checks\u00a0for intoxication, excessive speed, driving without a license and use of seat belts and motorcycle helmets.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">C.\u00a0Illegal Immigration<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Partial\u00a0quantitative\u00a0objectives\u00a0shall be set by local General Police Directors, in order to increase the number of arrests of:<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&#8211; People facilitating the illegal immigration attempts of foreigners into our country (entry, trafficking), who participate in organized networks of illegal trafficking in Greece and abroad.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">D.\u00a0Quality of Life for the Citizens<\/span><\/div>\n<div>The main quantitative objective is to keep to the same level as in the year 2005 the number of controls for noise pollution.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Partial quantitative objectives\u00a0are set according to the judgment of local General Police Directors, on the number of controls and of infringements regarding noise pollution, fully utilizing all the available sound-measuring devices.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u0395.\u00a0Infringements of the Law on Weapons<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Partial\u00a0quantitative\u00a0objectives\u00a0are set according to the judgment of local General Police Directors, on the number of confirmed infringements of the law on weapons and of seizures of ammunitions, fire arms and explosive devices, taking into consideration the quantitative information of the year 2005 and the special conditions prevailing in each region.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">In\u00a0order\u00a0to\u00a0achieve\u00a0all\u00a0objectives\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0set\u00a0the\u00a0priorities,\u00a0integrated\u00a0action\u00a0plans have been drawn up,\u00a0harmonized\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0special\u00a0conditions\u00a0and\u00a0particularities\u00a0in\u00a0each\u00a0region\u00a0and adapted to the staff and equipment potential of our Services.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For instance,\u00a0among others, the following actions shall continue in the year 2006:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Police squads for controls and campaigns\u00a0(general and special) shall continue to be formed in order to act at the local level or at the level of prefectures and prevent or crack down crime.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Patrols on foot and in vehicles\u00a0shall take place on a target-oriented basis, according to local particularities and the geographical distribution of crime.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Squads\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0Prevention\u00a0and\u00a0Suppression\u00a0of\u00a0Crime\u00a0shall continue to be active, so as to best support Police Services and best deal with special or increased problems of crime.<\/li>\n<li>The pilot scheme of the\u00a0&#8220;Neighborhood Police Officer&#8221;, shall continue to apply in:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0Thirty five (35) Police Departments of Attica,<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0Seven (7) Police Departments of Thessalonica,<\/div>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0Thirteen (13) Police Divisions in the entire territory (Alexandroupoli, Rodopi, Xanthi, Kavala, Drama, Ioannina, Evoia, Fthiotida, Corinthia, Messinia, Argolida, Herakleion, Achaia).<\/div>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Minor-oriented actions\u00a0shall be developed aiming at their protection from the consequences of illegal use of alcohol, drugs and from their participation in criminal groups. In this context, training activities shall be organized for the competent staff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Actions shall be implemented in order to\u00a0deal\u00a0with\u00a0illegal\u00a0trade; the Hellenic Police Force shall take part in the joint control squads together with employees from the Ministry of Economics and Finance, the Ministry of Development, the Municipal Police etc. It should be reminded that a memorandum of cooperation has recently been signed between the Hellenic Police Force and the Piraeus Municipal Police, whereas in the year 2004 a similar memorandum was signed with the Athens Municipal Police.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Cases of organized crime\u00a0shall be investigated thoroughly and in particular, those related to illegal immigration, drug and human trafficking, fully utilizing\u00a0international cooperation\u00a0and international police agreements, whereas\u00a0specialized seminars\u00a0shall also take place to best train police staff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>In order to\u00a0improve\u00a0the\u00a0daily\u00a0conditions\u00a0of\u00a0life\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0citizen,\u00a0administrative procedures shall be simplified, among others, whereas the time of response to the citizens shall be reduced on an everyday basis.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Road\u00a0traffic\u00a0patrolling\u00a0of the road network and of the Patra-Athens-Thessalonica-Evzoni national road in particular, shall be intensified, with the active participation of National Road Police Departments that have been operating since March 2005 and of others about to start operating in the year 2006.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Special attention shall be paid to the smooth operation of the\u00a0Passport\u00a0Division\u00a0of the Hellenic Police Force Headquarters, given the fact that as of 1-1-2006 this is the competent Division for issuing the new Hellenic passports, and of the\u00a0Offices for Issuing of Identity Cards, since as of 1-11-2005 and after modernizing the relative legal framework (18-10-2005), identity cards are issued on one day, on condition that the interested people have produced all necessary supporting documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>As of tomorrow, Monday (23-1-06) up to 30-1-06, the account of the year 2005 and the presentation of local objectives and priorities for the year 2006 shall be made at the headquarters of the Police Divisions in the entire territory.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">For more information\u00a0\u00a0 Tel.\u00a0 :\u00a0\u00a0 +30 210 6977505<br \/>\nFax\u00a0 :\u00a0 +30 210 6929764<br \/>\ne-mail\u00a0 :\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:elasgrty@mopo.gr\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: small;\"><u>elasgrty@mopo.gr<\/u><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HELLENIC\u00a0POLICE\u00a0FORCE\u00a0HEADQUARTERS\u00a0 Athens,\u00a022\/01\/2006, PRESS RELEASE The Hellenic Police Force Headquarters has set the main pillars of the policy against crime as well as the goals and priorities of the Hellenic Police Force for the year 2006.
